I thought I ought to mention this before going any further. Basically most cracked machines are cracked by `script kiddies' who have exploit scripts written by someone else who they run to try and crack your machine. Making their life harder by not running the most popular software or just changing the way it is configured slightly can make other boxes easier to crack than yours. Having said this if someone wants to crack your box specifically then it's unlikely to help and it should never be relied on.
